This is turning into a weekly blog instead of daily. I must do better.
Yesterday I read an article in Time Magazine by Sanjay Gupta, M.D. titled Run For Your Lives. Studies assert that not only have there been fewer deaths in the runners vs non runners group, but runners have put off disability for 12 to 16 years longer than the non runners. I don't know how long I can put off the grim reaper, but I hope he is out of breath when he catches up with me. So I went for a run. It was a beautiful afternoon sunny but cool and little wind, a perfect day for a run. I felt great afterwords and even later in the evening I still had this sense of euphoria and well being. We should all do this more often. - Bill

Bike to Church
Today was National Bike to Church Day at my church Christ Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS. If you would like to know more about National Bike To Church Day or want to sign your church up to participate visit http://www.biketochurch.com/. We don't have a huge congregation, but there were about 70 bikers this morning. Lots of families and kids. It's really encouraging to see so many people on bikes. Just like bike to work week, we don't really need a day or week declaration, just bicycle to more places. I vow to bike to church at least two times before the year is over. - Bill

Kansas City Marathon
Tomorrow is the annual Kansas City Marathon. I don't mention running on my soon to be published web sight, nor have I talked about it in my blog. I do run when I can't bicycle. This time of year the days are becoming too short to bike much in the evening, so a run is more appropriate. I will still bike some on the weekends. Last year I ran the KC Marathon half marathon in preparation for the Honolulu Marathon. It is a great event! Well supported, well attended and goes through some iconic areas of Kansas City, but it is not easy. There are some pretty good hills, but bands and spectators spur you on. I will be at the run as a spectator for my brother Bob. I have just not trained enough to do a half marathon and won't pay $30 for just a 5K run. - Bill
